You are right about this, although it is recommended to have the .exs instruments in logic’s “sampler instruments” folder
(please note the restriction of five directory levels here) you can also have it on any location and just place an alias into
Logic. The samples can reside on any volume you think convenient, but should not be on the system disk (or the disk
containing the swap file) and on the fastest available drive(s).
