How do I sync Cakewalk Sonar with an Adat and my Aardvark Aark24 with the 9-pin sync cable?
First, go into your Aark Manager, IO levels, and turn Adat Sync ON. This will disable the midi ports on your Aardvark, but will allow the Adat 9-pin sync to work.
In Sonar, make sure your Aardvark MIDI ports are enabled in Options – Midi Devices, highlight both in and out in blue. Unhighlight any MIDI ports you aren’t using.
Then go to Options – Project – Clock and select SMPTE/MTC as the Source. Then, in MIDI Out, select Transmit MMC under MIDI Machine Control (MMC). The Timecode Master Unit ID is usually 0 or 20, but typically doesn’t matter.
This will set Sonar to send MMC to start/stop the Adat. The Adat will then transmit MTC (Midi TimeCode) back to Sonar to sync it up.
Note it is possible the Sonar standard transport may not send MMC (The Adat won’t start playing). In this case, go to File – Open and change the Files of Type to StudioWare, and choose MMC panel. It can function as your transport.
