Problems using USB keyboards with OMS and other applications.

We’ve found this to be useful when configuring Midiman USB keyboards as well as other Keyboards that use USB, like the Korg Triton, and the Yamaha Motif.

It has been found that, renaming the keyboard and disabling Midi Machine control on OMS’s midi device specification allows Midiman USB keyboards to work with MOTU software.

1. After installing OMS and the Midiman drivers, launch OMS and be sure That the “Keystation Series” (could as be detected as “KORG”, “XG USB….”) icon apeears.
If the icon does not appear, try rescanning the USB connection by choosing.”Miidi Cards and Interfaces…” from the Studio menu. Follow the steps to rescan devices. Verify that the drivers have been installed properly & that USB cables are connected properly.

2. Click once on the “Keystation Series” Icon, and choose “Add Device Per Port” from the Studio menu.

3. A keyboard icon with a large red question mark will appear connected to the “Keystation Series” (Korg, XG USB, etc) icon. Double-click the icon to open the “Midi device info”.
– Rename the keyboard…. just make sure it’s different from the USB driver’s name “Keystation…..” in OMS
Remove all X’s and check marks except for “IS CONTROLLER”. All other items should NOT be checked:
– multitimbral
– receive channels = NONE checked
– Midi Time code
– Midi Beat Clock
– Midi Machine Control.

… all of the above options should be off.

4. Save OMS and Quit.

5. If you are using a FreeMIDI Application, Like Digital Performer or Freestyle, make sure FreeMIDI Preferences (Edit menu) have “Use OMS When Available” selected. If this needs to be turned on, restart your computer to make it active.
