With a PCI / PCI Express based PowerCore inside my Mac OS X system, it crashes when validating / scanning the PowerCore plug-ins – what can I do?

This can occur on some systems only during plug-in scanning. There are two workarounds:

Remove the PowerCore hardware from your system, and proceed with the validation / scanning. Put the PowerCore hardware back in your system again, after validating / scanning has been completed and you need to use the plug-in.

Unload the PowerCore kernel extension.

This is the equivalent to removing the PowerCore hardware from inside the machine, though it’s a lot more convenient and faster to do.

If you’re unfamiliar or uncomfortable working with the command line, we recommend you remove the hardware from your system manually instead.

Be aware that tinkering with the Mac OS X kernel extensions from the command line has the potential to crash your machine, so save any important work before proceeding.

Ensure that you have a Root user enabled on your system.

Open the Terminal application and type the following line exactly as below, followed by RETURN:

cd /System/Library/Extensions/

Type the following line exactly as below, followed by RETURN:

sudo kextunload PowerCore.kext

You will now be asked to type the Root password you set up for your Root account. After typing the Root password, hit RETURN.
The command line will confirm the action by telling you:

kextunload: unload kext PowerCore.kext succeeded

Proceed with plug-in validation / scanning. Since your computer can no longer see the PowerCore hardware, the PowerCore Messenger will inform you of this fact repeatedly. Once you’re completely done validating / scanning all plug-ins and need to use them, reverse the procedure from above.

Open the Terminal application and type the following line exactly as below, followed by RETURN:

cd /System/Library/Extensions/

Type the following line exactly as below, followed by RETURN:

sudo kextload PowerCore.kext

You will now be asked to type the Root password you set up for your Root account. After typing the Root password, hit RETURN.
The command line will confirm the action by telling you:

kextload: load kext PowerCore.kext succeeded
