Must a main unit always be used, or can you just use the Logic Control XT on its own?

Technically it is possible to use a Logic Control XT on its own, however you will get only 10% of the possibilities. But because the price advantage of the XT against the main unit is comparably small, we don’t recommend it. The manufacturing cost of the extension is only slightly lower than that of the main unit because the most important – and most expensive – components such as the LCD, motorized faders, V-Pots and internal processor are identical. Apart from that, the extra controller elements found on the main unit, such as Global View shortcut buttons, Automation controls, Assignment switching keys, Transport Controls and Jog/Scrub wheel all make working with Logic Platinum 5 much faster and more convenient.
