Why don’t I get the M icon in my Windows XP system tray as the manual states for the M-Audio FastTrackUSB? Do I need that?
The M icon is only needed if you are using an application which uses ASIO drivers (like Cubase, Sonar, and many softsynths). If you are using an application which uses standard audio drivers, you won’t need this icon to be installed or available.
