Kurzweil file format

We seem to get lots of questions about computer compatibility with Kurzweil disks. Well, here’s the lowdown from Daniel Fisher, our Chief Soundware Engineer. “K2000/K2500/K2600 CD-ROMs are in a “semi-proprietary” format that’s almost-but-not-quite-DOS. Thus a PC can’t read them. Strangely enough, a Mac with PC Exchange or Access PC can read “some” Kurzweil CD-ROMs depending on when they were made. Anything of ours from GuitarCD to present can be read on the Mac. All Kurzweil floppies can be seen on both a Mac or PC as it is in a “true” DOS format.” There you have it. The obvious corollary to this question is, “How do I use my PC (or Mac) to load and save files for my Kurzweil?” That’s a potentially sticky subject as the answer depends to a certain extent on what type of specific computer hardware you have. We’ve covered this and other related ground in past installments of TTOTD, but to get a more specific answer for your specific circumstances we recommend you speak to your illustrious Sweetwater Sales Engineer.
