Korg microKORG 2 Firmware Update Guide
Korg periodically releases firmware updates, often adding new features or addressing bugs in the current version. It’s critical to update the firmware before using the microKORG 2 for the first time. Follow the sections below to get started.
Back Up User Data
You must back up all user data to your computer before updating the firmware, as you will need to perform a factory reset during the firmware-update procedure.
- With the microKORG 2 powered off, connect it to your computer.
- Press and hold the FUNCTION 1 button and turn it on. The microKORG 2 will appear as an external storage device on your computer.
- Open the Programs and Global folders, then copy the .mk2prog and .mk2glob from their respective folders to a folder or the desktop on your computer.
- Safely eject the microKORG 2 from your computer. Press the FUNCTION 5 button to exit USB Mass Storage mode. The device will restart automatically.
Perform a Factory Reset
IMPORTANT! Never press any knobs, controls, or keys or turn off the microKORG 2 during the factory-reset process! Doing so may brick the unit.
After you’ve backed up all your user data, you must perform a factory reset. This is a straightforward process.
- With the microKORG 2 powered off, press and hold the FUNCTION 2 button and press the Power button. You will see FACTORY RESET on the display.
- Press the FUNCTION 4 button. The factory-reset process will begin.
Update the microKORG 2 Firmware
Now that you’ve backed up your user data and performed a factory reset, it’s time to perform a firmware update.
- Go to the Korg microKORG 2 download page, scroll to Software, and download the latest microKORG 2 System Updater.
- Navigate to your Downloads folder. Locate and extract the firmware file.
- With the microKORG 2 powered off, connect it to your computer via the USB-C connector. Press and hold the FUNCTION 3 button and turn it on.
- After you see WAITING FOR UPDATE FILE, the microKORG 2 will become a usable storage device named UPDATE.
- Copy and paste the extracted firmware file to the UPDATE device.
- After completing the transfer, safely eject the microKORG 2 from your computer, then press the FORMAT 4 button. The firmware-update process will then begin.
- Don’t power off the device during the firmware-update process!
- Once you see COMPLETE: PLEASE REBOOT on the display, you can power cycle the device.
Load User Data
After you’ve updated the firmware, you can transfer your user data back to the microKORG 2.
- With the microKORG 2 powered off, connect it to your computer.
- Press and hold the FUNCTION 1 button and turn the device on. The microKORG 2 will appear as an external storage device on your computer.
- Copy and paste the .mk2prog and .mk2glob from the computer to their respective Programs and Global folders.
- Safely eject the microKORG 2 from your computer and press the FUNCTION 5 button to exit USB Mass Storage mode. The device will automatically restart.

The estimated required monthly payment shown which excludes taxes and delivery equals the amount financed divided by the number of months in the promo period, rounded up to the next cent. During the last month(s) of the promo period the required monthly payment may be reduced due to this rounding. These payments apply only with the financing offer shown. If you make these payments by the due date each month, you should pay off this amount financed within the promo period, if it is the only balance you are paying off. If you have other balances on your account, this payment will be added to any other minimum monthly payments.
