Drives don’t show up in ATTO Express Pro-Tools.

* Try rescanning the bus by hitting the RESCAN button. Timing errors where retry counts are not large enough can result in drives not being detected.
* Check cable connections. Check cable ends for damaged connectors. If possible, replace cable. Attach drives one at a time to check cable and drive reliability. Remember to change termination to last drive as each new one is added.
* Make sure your drives are the same SCSI type of your host adapter. For example, single-ended Ultra SCSI adapters require single-ended hard drives. It is also possible to use Ultra2 or Ultra3 SCSI drives, but you must run them in single ended mode. This can be done by simply using a Single Ended terminator on the drive. Single-ended and High Voltage Differential drives can’t be mixed without a converter box.
* On occasion, the firmware of the card can become corrupted. Run the Express PCI updater to re-flash the adapter firmware.
* Check the drive power, make sure the drives are powering up and spinning.
* Watch the drive lights before, during, and after startup. Many drives have term power lights that should be on before startup and turn off when system boots. Drive lights should also flash at startup as the SCSI bus scans them.
* Attach the drives to the native Mac SCSI bus if possible. Make sure the drives function properly with this SCSI controller. Beige G3s and older usually have native SCSI busses while B&W G3s and G4s do not.
* Make sure all SCSI devices connected to the card have unique SCSI ID’s, and that NONE are using SCSI ID #7
