How to Format a SCSI Drive Using the ATTO Utility. Formatting your drive will erase the contents, so remember to back up your SCSI drive before formatting.
– Install ATTO EPT v 2.3.2 from Pro Tools LE Installer Disk to your hard drive.
– Launch the ATTO Express Pro Tools 2.3.2 Utility, in ATTO folder on your Mac Hard Drive.
Partitioning isn’t a requirement. It can improve seek times by limiting the distance the heads have to travel, but only if you limit your activity to only one partition at a time per drive. If you do partition, the recommended partition size is 9 gigabytes.
HFS vs. HFS+
Using HFS+ will save considerable disk space — particularly when there are lots of crossfades or other small files — because it uses smaller allocation blocks (4k) than HFS (64k). However, it will take longer to record-prime if open-ended allocation is used due to the greater number of allocation blocks. Other than that, there’s no real performance difference between the two.
In ATTO ExpressPro-Tools:
1. select drive to be formatted, in left side, under Busses and Drives.
2. Utilities > erase disk
3. HFS button and enter in how large the partition/volume is.
4. HFS button for second partition/volume.
OK.
Just choose default settings after pressing HFS button, nothing custom. The burst rate on the ATTO card should be at 32 bytes. Do not choose to setup the drive for Digital Audio, as this can cause problems.
