How do I create Unity Banks containing Samples, Multisamples and Programs?

This is a quick overview to creating a Unity Bank containing samples, multisamples and programs.
First open the Unity Editor. A new blank Editor document will be opened.
Let’s assume that we already have several audio samples that are ready to go into the Editor. Click on the “Samples” page. Now, lets drag our samples into the samples column on the left. At this point I would save the document and name it.
It is also a good idea to name the individual samples with the root notes in the title so when creating a multisample it is easier to determine were they should go.
In a standard Unity bank, using musical notes mapped out across the keyboard, it is a good idea to set each of the samples’ root notes to C4. This way you can set one sample to several notes (a zone) and stretch it’s pitch over the zone.
(In order for this to take effect you must also enable “keyboard tracking” in the “Programs” Main window, later on in this process. We’ll get to that in a minute however) Set the root note using the root note selector in the “Sample Editor” window. When you select a sample from the samples column, it will appear in the “Sample Editor” window. You can now select the root note. Do this for each sample and save. You can also edit each sample as necessary in this Editor Window – Add loops points, cut off any extra pieces. Etc.
Now let’s move on to the “Multisamples “window. Click inside of the white column on the left and then click “Add” at the bottom of the column. “Untitled” will appear in the column. Click on “untitled” and click “Name” at the bottom of the column. Now give your multisample a name. You can also double click on the name to rename it.
Click inside of the large white box in the center of the multisamples page. Now you have two options: 1) click on the “Add” box or 2) click on the “Add Multiple” box. The” Add” box creates one individual zone in the multisamples window. You can now manually adjust the placement of that zone. To select the sample for that particular zone, click inside of the zone and select a sample from the “sample” pull down menu. All of the samples from the “samples” page will be in this list.
If you click “Add Multiple” then another window will appear. On the left will be all of the samples from the “Samples” page. Select the samples you want to be transferred into the multusample zones and click select all. This will spread the samples/zones out over the keyboard. There are also a few options on how the zones are laid out. Now you can manually adjust the zones and samples to their proper places or to anywhere you want them. Now that you have successfully created a multisample lets move on to the “Programs” page.
In the “Programs” window, again there is a column on the left hand side. Click inside of the white column and then click “Add” at the bottom of the column, “untitled” will appear in the column. Click on “untitled” and click “Name” at the bottom of the column. Now give your Program a name. You can also double click on the name to rename it.
The “Configuration” window will be what you see to the right of the “Program” column. Set the type of synth plug-in you want here, (let’s say DS-1 for now) Now click on the “Main” tab and select the multisample that you created from the multisample pull-down menu. Here is also where you enable the keyboard tracking I mentioned earlier. (There is a small icon of a keyboard – red is enabled) As always, save your work now.
The “Main Modulation” window is where you can determine how envelopes, LFOs, velocity, pan, etc, shape a particular program’s sound. For a basic set up click in the “Routings” box and click the” Add” button below. Do this twice. In the “Modulators” window click “Add” once. You will see “Envelope 1” in the box. Go back to the “Routings” box and click on the top one. Now from the pull-down menu on the right, select “Velocity” as the “From.” Select “Volume” as the “To “destination”. Now click on the second one. Select “Envelope 1” as the “From.” and “Volume” as the “To” destination. Now move back down to “Envelope 1” in the Modulators box and edit the Attack, Sustain and Release to your desired taste.
Each Program can have it’s own set of Midi and Audio effects as well as it’s own Modulation routings.
