When I change sample rate on my audio interface and launch Cubase LE, it displays the message, “Sample rate could not be set. This may be due to the sample clock being set to external sync.”
This message is somewhat confusing. It should say, “Cubase has detected a sample rate change in your audio hardware and will change its sample rate to match.”
In other words, after you’ve verified that the sample rate of your audio interface is correct, you can safely ignore this message.*
* If you are sending digital (SPDIF, optical, etc) into your audio interface, be sure to make sure your clock source is correct as well.
