Boss Katana Factory Reset
NOTE: This article pertains to the original BOSS Katana and the Katana Mk II lines of amplifiers. If you have a BOSS Katana Gen 3 amp, see our BOSS Katana Gen 3: Factory Reset guide.
Overview
Performing a factory reset will bring the unit back to its original out-of-the-box state. This is a good way to troubleshoot if you’re experiencing any issues, even after updating the firmware. So in this guide, we will show you how to perform a factory reset to your Boss Katana amp. Follow the sections below to get started.
Back up user presets and data
Before you go through the reset procedure, you’ll want to back up all of your presets. This can be done loading your tones to a Liveset in Boss Tone Studio, and saving it as a .tsl file. You if you have made any additional configurations (i.e., foot pedal assignments, line out settings), you will also need to back up any data as a separate .alb file.
Presets
- Go to the Librarian menu and click the export button.
- Select the Livesets you wish to back up, then click FILE.
Data
- Click System and select All Data Backup.
- Select TO FILE, rename it, and click Save.
Perform a factory reset
- Turn the unit off, and set the POWER CONTROL knob to STANDBY.
- Press and hold the PANEL button and turn the Katana on. The Booster, Mod, Delay, and Reverb LEDs will flash.
- Release the PANEL button. Once the PANEL button starts flashing, the factory reset is complete.
