Using the ATTO ExpressPro-Tools Utility to format a hard drive.

When installing ATTO ExpressPro-Tools, chose NOT to install the ATTO extension. It is not needed for normal operations. Simply launch the ATTO ExpressPro-Tools utility and allow it to scan all SCSI busses.

1. Click the top-left button (that usually says BUSSES and DRIVES), and change it to BUSSES AND DEVICES. All drives should appear directly below.

2. Click once on the hard drive you want to format.

3. Click the UNMOUNT button at the bottom-right of the window to unmount the drive.

4. From the UTILITIES menu, choose either LOW LEVEL FORMAT or ERASE DISK
a) LOW LEVEL FORMAT – will completely erase all sectors and blocks. While this takes a very long time (hours), it is more thorough, and good for disks that are used frequently and heavily.
b) ERASE DISK – is a quicker method, but does not completely erase the disk. This method only wipes the directory and drivers.

5. Once formatting is complete, select the drive again, and choose INSTALL DRIVER on DISK from the UTILITIES menu.

6. With the drive still selected, click the “HFS” button at the bottom left of the window (below CREATE VOLUME). Here, you will have options to determine how many partitions you’d like, type of volume (HFS, HFS-plus, etc….)

7. Use the MOUNT button to mount disk and all volumes created.
