How do I do a buss based bounce in Pro Tools?

Setup

  1. Create a Stereo Aux Input track (Name this track “MIX AUX”)
  2. Set the input of this Aux track to an unused Bus
  3. Set the output of this Aux track to another unused bus
  4. Set all tracks to be bounced to the SAME BUS as your new Aux tracks INPUT set in step 2. Note: If you are already bussing tracks ONLY change the output of the tracks you bussed those tracks to. Do NOT change the bus setting of previously bussed tracks.
  5. Create a Stereo or mono Audio track and set the INPUT to the same output bus as the new Aux Track setting in step #3
  6. Set the output of this track to your main speaker output (in most cases “Analog 1-2”)
  7. save your session (or Save As”)

Bounce

  1. Record enable the new Audio track created in step #5
  2. Make a selection in the timeline to denote the length of the bounce you want to perform.
[i]Note: All tracks, plug-ins and automation will be recorded to the new audio track, including any “mastering” plug-ins you put on the “Mix Aux” created in step #1.
  3. Once the record has completed, on the new audio track, disengage the record enable button
  4. Use the trim tool top remove and time or space at the beginning or end of your bounce.
  5. Save your session (or Save As”)

Export

  1. Select your file using the “grabber tool” in the Edit Window’s timeline (Note: the file to export must be 1 whole file with no breaks. If you made edits to this file you must “Consolidate” it first”
  2. Once selected, in the Edit window goto the Region’s List (far right) and select the mini-menu at the top of the list in this list choose “Export Selected Regions”
  3. Choose your desired export settings and location and export.
  4. If you need to export to another format repeat steps 14 and 15.
