A Legacy Built By and For Music Makers

Reason Studios cares about one thing above all else: your music. For 25 years Reason Studios have been developing software that fundamentally changes the way music is made by putting it into the hands of as many people as possible. From their first groundbreaking Rex sample slicing technology in 1994, the beloved instruments effects that make up Reason’s virtual studio rack, and the mobile apps which have turned millions of phones into instruments and studios, Reason Studios have been turning the world’s music dreamers into music makers and inspiring them to keep creating.

From Classic Hardware to Classic Software

Reason Studios have been pioneering software instruments since 1996 when ReBirth, the world’s first accessible synth-based music software, started a revolution that democratized music making to the masses. What was once an unobtainable collection of electronic instruments became instantly available on your desktop computer. The classic 303, 808, and 909 software emulations in Rebirth didn’t just sound incredible, but it was also easy to make great music. In 2001 Reason Studios upended the music making community again with Reason, putting the hardware racks akin to those found in high-end music studios into the hands of music makers the world over. Reason’s Rack was and is a one-of-a-kind musical playground where synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines can be cabled together any way you want to make custom sounds and highly inspirational instruments.

Built from the Sound Up

In Reason’s Rack, instruments can be combined and reordered any way you want. From simple-but-stunning pianos to other worldly synths, sounds are created and driven by control voltage signals passing from Rack device to device using Reason’s real-world cables and jacks on the backside of the Rack. And Reason’s Rack plug-in runs inside your favorite DAW as a VST, AU, and AAX plug-in, meaning that wherever you make music, Reason’s collection of Rack devices goes with you.

Expand Your Rack

Reason’s Rack includes a huge collection of instruments, effects, loops, and samples, but just like a real-world rack, Reason’s Rack can be expanded with hundreds of additional Rack Extension instruments, effects, and synth modulation utilities made by industry-leading, third-party developers like Korg, Rob Papen, U-he, and many more.

Always Learning, Always Playing

Reason Studios is committed to helping music makers learn to get the most out of Reason. In addition to its in-app tutorial content, Reason Studios produces a growing library of video tutorials, live streams, and web articles to teach and inspire people to try new things and make the best music they can.
