Wah with Plenty of Tonal Shaping

The Xotic Wah effects pedal is one of the most versatile wah pedals we've ever seen here at Sweetwater. Its circuit is closely based on the famous Clyde McCoy wah pedals made in Italy during the 1960s. But onboard controls for bias, Q, resonance, and frequency range allow you to dial in any shade of wah you desire. And the Xotic Wah boasts true bypass to not color your tone and to work wonderfully with your favorite fuzz pedals. In its factory setting, the Xotic Wah is a wonderful-sounding pedal, but its added controls will help you find your own signature sound.

Xotic: Boutique pedals, preamps, and more

Xotic was born in a small garage in Southern California in 1996 and quickly became known for high-quality, boutique bass guitars and bass preamps. These days, they've expanded the pedal line, crafting stompboxes that are played by some of the finest guitarists in the business. Their acclaimed AC Booster, RC Booster, and BB Preamp pedals remain some of their most popular pedals.

Xotic Wah Effects Pedal Features:
  • Highly tweakable wah pedal
  • Circuit based on the famous Italian-made Clyde McCoy wahs from the '60s
  • Controls for bias, Q, treble, and bass
  • Adjustable pedal tension
  • LED indicator lets you know when the effect is engaged
  • True bypass switching doesn't adversely affect your signal
  • Internal dip switches for resonance and frequency range
Find your ideal sound inside the Xotic Wah.

I have had this for about a month now, and I literally have not touched a single knob. It plays fantastic out of the box, the LED is helpful, the smaller footprint allows more open real estate on the board, and frankly, everything I own from Xotic is top notch.

Great Wah

Great Wah virtually everything is adjustable to your taste - sound, pedal tension, physical sweep. It is a little pricey relative to most, but likely the last Wah you will buy. Quality and construction look good (been playing on it about 1 month), love the size fits great on my pedal board. Very smooth switch, no hard stomp, audible click or cut in. You can truly find your sound with this pedal. Great job by Xotic., highly recommend.

No other Wah like it

I almost gave up on wah pedals. They are either too quacky, or just weak, and they are always just too dang big. When Xotic released this one I decided to give it a shot because I really like their other FX. Finally a wah pedal you can tune to fit your sound. and the "foot print" fits perfectly with my other gear without crowding. Thank you Xotic.

Sounds great, but...

The activation switch cuts out momentarily when you turn it on. I contacted Xotic about it. They said they designed it that way. The signal doesn't cut out when you turn it back off. Super annoying. The pedal is also smaller than I would like it to be. There's a point where you don't save any more space on your pedalboard by making a wah smaller. You still have to have room for your foot. I got used to it after a while, but I still prefer the standard CryBaby size. It just feels more stable when you're operating it. Those gripes aside, this pedal is super well-built and sounds truly fantastic. I was able to dial in the sound I was after with just a couple minutes of fiddling with the knobs and switches. I'm pretty sure this wah can sonically match or outperform any wah on the market. Thin and funky, thick and ballsy, whatever you want. Behaves well with a germanium Fuzz Face, too.

Sweetwater Advice

Xotic Wah

The Xotic XW-1 is one of the most versatile wah pedals I have ever laid foot upon - it sounds fantastic. With controls for shaping and fine-tuning nearly every frequency that ever made a wah a joy (or wonderfully unruly), it can go from glass-shattering highs to swampy lows, and everything in between. And the extent to which you can tailor it to your rig is both impressive and potentially invaluable....
