A Value-packed Trident for the Modern Studio
Their A Range consoles are the stuff of legend; their B Range and Series 80 desks recorded countless hit records in the 1970s and '80s. The Trident 78 is a semi-modular analog, in-line 8-bus console derived from the Series 80 mixing desks. The 78 is a value-packed workhorse board designed for project studio owners, educational facilities, houses of worship, and live sound applications. The classic Trident look, feel, and sound is evident the first time you raise a fader on the 78. The discrete Class A preamps have 60dB of gain on tap, letting you use your favorite ribbon mics on quiet sources. The 4-band 80B EQ, as you would expect, is properly British-sounding. The 78 delivers the legendary huge Trident analog sound along with modern refinements that make it an ideal choice for the contemporary hybrid studio.

Powerful British EQ
Ported from the Series 80 consoles, Trident's venerable 80B channel equalizer provides four bands with ±15dB of boost or cut, generally following Trident's classic EQ topography. In addition to sounding great, this EQ provides a great deal of sound-sculpting muscle. The high and low bands are shelving. HF hinge points are selectable at 8kHz and 12kHz; LF at 60Hz and 120Hz. The sweepable low and high mid bands are peaking. There's also a 50Hz highpass filter to roll off unwelcome low-frequency mud and rumble.
Flexible, split/in-line design
At mixdown, the in-line channel strips of the Trident 78 accommodate two inputs each. Plus, the split-console-style monitor/group section lets you use the monitor channels as bus masters, as monitor inputs, or as additional line inputs while mixing. So what this all amounts to is a generous number of inputs at mixdown. The 78's conventional control layout feels familiar to any engineer who came up on analog consoles, but there’s ample flexibility for integrating it into modern DAW-based studio configurations.
Your custom console, built-to-order
Trident offers several options on the 78 that allow you to customize it to your particular needs and budget. The options you choose will affect the price. You have a choice of analog VU or LED bar-graph meter bridges, the addition of Lundahl output transformers, and 16-, 24-, or 32-channel configurations. We suggest you call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer to discuss the various options and configure the Trident console of your dreams.
