Two Channels of Pure Plexi Bliss

Born in the late 1960s, the Marshall JMP — a.k.a. the Plexi — delivers what's arguably the most iconic tube-fueled crunch in guitar history. The Synergy Marshall JMP packs this legendary sound into a convenient 2-channel preamp module, enabling you to harness the classic British-infused voice used by such influential players as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Paul Kossoff, and Eric Johnson. Loaded with two 12AX7 preamp tubes, the Synergy module injects your playing with the same aggressive midrange bite, punchy low end, and crisp highs as the full-size amplifier. Moreover, the built-in Zero Watt power amp section allows it to replicate the original amplifier's phase inverter circuitry. This full-featured module brandishes two identical channels, each with Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 controls, enabling you to access the original amplifier's input-jumpered configurations. You also get per-channel Bass, Middle, Treble, and Master volume controls. Moreover, per-channel '60s/'70s switches enable you to toggle between early- and later-era JMP tones, and you get two Bright switches for each channel. You also get a 3-position cathode select switch for configuring your input tube bias setting. Players with a serious craving for classic British crunch will find the Marshall JMP module endlessly satisfying.

The JMP legacy lives on

The Synergy Marshall JMP module faithfully captures the tone, power, and harmonic richness of the iconic non-master volume JMP amplifier, offering two identical, independent channels for a wide range of sounds, from bold, articulate cleans to saturated crunch and searing high-gain. Each channel features its own 3-band EQ for authentic tone shaping. Moreover, the Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 knobs replicate the original amplifier's Bright and Normal input volumes, enabling you to blend them seamlessly — no input jumpering required. Additionally, Master volume knobs allow you to attain a precise level balance between the channels. Finally, four Bright switches allow easy adjustment of the bright caps — traditionally a job for an amp technician — facilitating fine-tuning of your high-end response. By blending the two channels, players can craft a custom mix of brightness and warmth, achieving the ideal balance of attack and body.

Synergy Amplification: a tube-fueled alliance

Merriam-Webster defines synergy as "a mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants." With Synergy Amplification's consortium of tube-amp talents that includes Dave Friedman (Friedman), Joe Morgan (Morgan), Steven Fryette (Fryette and VHT), Mike Soldano (Soldano), and Peter Diezel (Diezel), the name is a perfect fit. Each product is painstakingly crafted by these titans of the tube-amp world, ensuring every nuance of their legendary amplifiers is translated to your tone. For the most iconic tones in the most convenient package possible, Sweetwater is proud to offer you Synergy Amplification.

Reviews

Synergy Marshall JMP Preamp Module
With limited use thus far, I would say you can get it close to the real deal. Running the JMP via Syn-2 into a Marshall 9000 series power amp loaded with KT77s, then into Marshall 1960 AV 4x12 cab. Swapping out the Syn and the actual plexi, to my ears, is pretty darn close.
Finally...the real deal!
I've played a lot of lower priced Marshall amps and tons of Marshall sims, but it's great to finally play a "real" Marshall with Synergy's hybrid amp design! I can get pretty much any of those famous Marshall tones from the 60s and 70s.

I purchased it for it's late 70s gain sounds (since the Synergy amp already has the built-in clean channel), but find myself REALLY digging the 60s channel with a clean-ish setting. It really has loads of character to it. I also love what a TS circuit does to either channel.

And I love that I can hook up an XLR to my Synergy 20IR head and run direct to the mixing board at church. That's a great bonus for any Marshall platform.

Keeps getting better!
I use a SYN-50 through a pair of Greenbacks and a pair of V30s, and it's made the best sounds I've ever had from an amp. Once I had the BB-BE and SLO modules, I thought, "This is it, the sounds I've always wanted!" Then came the Killer Kali module, which supplanted the SLO for high gain - absolutely stellar. Now comes the JMP module, which somehow has more fidelity and response than any of the other modules I've played, that replaced the BE-BB for lower gain sounds. When I play nowadays, I just get stuck on the JMP, it has such a wide range of killer sounds. It has a fullness and squish in the sound that my other modules don't have (likely due to the zero-watt power amp) that makes it hard to stop playing. Can't say enough good things about this module!

Amazing synergy module!
I have many of the synergy modules - this new Marshall jmp module is hands down one of the best! Great crunch tones, aggressive leads and even some nice plexi cleans - excellent versatility. I did own the original non-branded plexi mod and this one is much better. The OG had essentially one sound - modded plexi lead/rhythm. You could not easily achieve 60's Hendrix plexi cleans at all without significantly reducing guitar volume and losing a bit of the power. I would also say there was much less variability in the crunch and lead times - adjusting the 1st and 2nd volume knobs on the OG had much less impact. In contrast the new Marshall branded syn mod offers are a whole palette of crunch and rock tones ranging from light classic rock crunch to much more aggressive modded marshall sounds. The 2 brightness switches lend themselves to easier tone sculpting. For 70's or 80's hard rock it is definitely tops. No cons that I can think of - except we will now be waiting for a similarly refined and updated 800 module.
Golden Plexi Goodness!!!
I also own the original Synergy Plexi module with the shared EQ stack. I do love that module, but this new Marshall branded Plexi takes the tone to the next level. The individual bright switches along with the 60s/70s switches add so many tonal variations, and all of them sound glorious!

Add in the zero-watt power amp, and this is such an amazing addition to the lineup.

The sounds are just glorious! (Did I mention that already??? LOL!)

This is one of the MUST HAVE Synergy modules for sure!
