An Iconic Bass Built for Any Player

From the early 1950s to today, one bass throughout the history of popular music has seen more recording time than perhaps any other: the Precision Bass. Designed to ignite that first spark of inspiration, the Squier Sonic Precision Bass provides a solid foundation for any budding bassist that grows with them throughout their life. The combination of a single pickup with a maple neck emits the foundational sonic punch that catapulted the P Bass to its legendary status, while the lightweight poplar body and maple fingerboard offer a comfortable, unencumbered playing experience. With such performance features as a rigid chrome bridge, sealed die-cast tuners, and a synthetic bone nut, this 4-string powerhouse is reliable enough for Sweetwater’s bass players to take directly to the stage. Simplistic in nature but far from ordinary, the Sonic Precision Bass serves as a fantastic gateway into the world of bass guitar, whether you’re discovering music or creating it.

Iconic sound, modernized

The sound of the Precision Bass’s split single-coil pickup has fueled countless rhythm sections, spanning vastly different styles and genres, including hard rock, pop, reggae, and punk. Achieving pop-punk’s trebly plink, metal’s heavy chugs, or even reggae’s thick, wide thud is fast and easy with just a few tweaks to the Sonic Precision Bass’s Tone control. This spread of versatile tones gets a final punchy boost from the pickup’s modern ceramic magnets. Expect familiar sounds, but with extra heft, whether you’re plugging into a traditional amplifier or a recording interface.

Comfortable and fast maple neck

With its satin-finished maple neck and smooth maple fingerboard, the Squier Sonic Precision Bass is a fast-fretting player across all 20 frets. From pros to beginners, bassists value the slick playability these tonewoods provide. The Sonic Precision Bass’s neck features a C-shape profile, a modern standard that’s comfortable for most players. Finally, the snappy character of the maple neck gives the Sonic Precision Bass the essence that’s remained a staple of iconic bass tones throughout history.

Squier Sonic Precision Bass Features:

  • Authentic Precision Bass style and tone for any player
  • Solid poplar body with a gloss finish looks fantastic in any stage lighting
  • C-shaped maple neck with maple fingerboard facilitates playing comfort across all 20 frets
  • Ceramic split single-coil pickup produces classic P Bass tone enhanced with modern components
  • Volume and Tone controls yield a wide range of sounds
  • Durable chrome bridge and sealed die-cast tuners ensure proper tuning stability
  • Synthetic bone nut consistently enriches string resonance

Reviews

Well worth the money

I am readjusting my previous review of 4 stars. I received this as a Christmas gift. Once set it it plays like a dream. There is nothing cheap about this instrument. It is beautiful. I love the finish. It produces a deep rich tone even with the tone nob turned down. I play bass at church and have received many compliments on the bass. On another note. All in all, this plays like a much more expensive bass.

Long time guitar player just decided to dabble in some bass. Didn't want to dive in too deep right now, but man!, was I amazed at the band-for-the-buck this baby brings! Beautiful finish, great sound and comfy to play. Only issue was the fret ends were very sharp. Took it to my local guitar shop for a set-up, fretwork, and flatwounds installed and WOW am I happy with this purchase! Kudos to the Sweetwater team, and my sales rep John McWhirter, who was very informative and helpful. Long time Sweetwater customer and never once disappointed!
HUGE bang for the buck!
Wow - especially for the price I'm very impressed. Well built, good finish, the Jazz-style neck is nice and slim (a little sticky feeling out of the box but that will break in with playing time) and the split-coil pickup gives that nice P-Bass growl. Really great bass - I wish my first bass had been this nice!

I bought this as a mod platform - my order had a Fender High-Mass bridge and 72505M strings in it - so I only played the bass stock for a couple days before I put those on and I have it setup tuned BEAD. The pickup handles the low B nicely - I have exactly what I was hoping for!

Kudos to my Sales Engineer Andrew Plassman - I'm not his biggest customer but he always treats me like I am!
For a bottom of the line it’s not a bottom line bass!

Bought a Sonic P bass figuring it would be something to learn how to work on guitars with. Figured it would be junk! Was I surprised to find that this is a high quality, well made guitar! The fit and finish are amazing! I have a 1996 Fender American Standard J bass and this is almost as nice! The sound was actually quite good, but I upgraded the pickups and wiring harness just because it was recommended, and it does sound better, but not drastically over stock. I now practice on this one regularly and leave the expensive J bass in the case to keep it protected. I have about $ invested in the Sonic and have a truly nice bass. I doubt a $ P bass would be significantly different. Definitely a good buy.

AWESOME! Best bang for the buck!
Before I wrote this review, I wanted to test it out first to be accurate. I've had this bass on preorder and received it a few weeks ago. I have to say that this definitely is the best value out there for an affordable 4 string bass guitar! I am actually amazed! Unless I got that diamond in the rough, I did not have to touch this guitar at all! I tuned it up and was happy with the factory set up. The frets are also fine on the guitar, not 1 sharp fret and the height is perfect! The sound of this bass is actually not bad at all. I play rock and metal and this has all the tone I need. I bought this bass for a cheap back up when I gig, one that I won't cry about if something happens to it. I had to give this 5 stars! For the price you just wouldn't expect the bone nut, the open vintage tuners, the feel of the neck and playability, the finish etc. I really have nothing bad to say about this bass at all lol. I actually texted my rep the day it came in and told him how surprised I was! I have switched back and forth from standard tuning to Eb, to drop D with no issues. Every time I take this bass out of its case, it has stayed in tune or pretty much close to it. In closing, if you're still reading this lol you can purchase this bass with confidence. Don't let the price fool you, for what this bass is… you will not be disappointed. I hope this review helps someone in making a decision.
