Transport Your Guitar Tone to the Heyday of Rock 'n' Roll

Vintage guitar tone abounds in the Keeley Memphis Sun pedal, and it's sure to put a smile on your face. Equipped with lo-fi reverb, echo, and double tracker effects, it's like being transported to a 1950s recording session. Much more than rockabilly in a box, Memphis Sun offers three modes for three distinct starting points. Slapback 600 delivers echo with long delays, Sun Mode features auto track doubling and slapback with short delays, and Room mode offers "studio simulation reverb." Kick it on and it's sure to inspire some good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. If you've been looking for something to add to your pedalboard for a vintage vibe, Sweetwater can highly recommend the Keeley Memphis Sun.

Slapback 600 mode — vintage tape-style echo

In addition to room reverb, this mode offers delay times from 30ms to 666ms, with up to three repeats offered by the Regen control. To really dial in the vintage flavor, this mode filters the reverb response at 1kHz and then compresses it, with some added harmonics to simulate tape response. The result? Gloriously rich tape echo effects with a wide delay range.

Sun Mode — double tracking and slapback

Engage Sun Mode for room reverb plus double tracking and slapback delay effects. Ok, so Automatic Double Tracking (ADT) wasn't available in the 1950s, but it sounds so right that Keeley included it anyway. For that double-tracked sound, keep the delay time low and Regen all the way down (or increase it for tape-style modulation). For slapback delay, simply increase the delay time control until you hear a distinct repeat — the delay knob ranges from 0ms to 180ms while in Sun Mode.

Room — good ol' fashioned studio reverb

If for some reason you're not looking for slapback and double tracking, select Room mode to simulate a small 33' by 18' tiled room. Keeley designed this effect to re-create the natural compression that occurs when you fill a small space with big sound. Dial in your preferred pre-delay amount, from 0 to 180ms, then fine-tune your tone with the Regen control — in this mode, it's actually an active filter with 10dB of cut or boost centered around 1.1kHz.

Keeley Memphis Sun Lo-fi Reverb/Echo/Double Tracker Pedal Features:

  • Vintage-themed effects pedal based on the sound of 1950s rock 'n' roll, country, and rockabilly
  • Slapback 600 mode offers reverb plus echo with long delay times
  • Sun Mode features reverb plus auto track doubling, and slapback with short delays
  • Room mode simulates studio reverb, with 0ms-180ms pre-delay range
  • Designed to replicate the nuances of 1950s recording techniques for a truly vintage character

Reviews

Three in One
This thing is the Ring of Power for country, and rockabilly players. It is literally three pedals in one (which makes it an exceptional value). There's great lowfi room reverb, delay, and ADT (automatic double tracking) in three presets. There's plenty of room for tweaking and getting even more interesting tones, as well. Robert Keeley is a magician when it comes to tone, and after only a week I'm already thinking of this as indispensable. Thanks Keeley, and thanks to my Sweetwater Rep John McWhirter for taking care of me so well.
Great for Rockabilly
Easy to use and produces a very authentic sound for the price. I play a number of Stary Cat songs and this does the job.
Music background: Guitar 50 years / bass 25 years
Awesome Pedal
This pedal just makes you want to play surf music all day. It nails that 50s and 60s Rockabilly Tone. I'm loving it.
A very different type of pedal with so much versatility. It's definitely staying on my board.
Music background: Intermediate guitar player
Memphis Sun Pedal
Well, I've been to Sun Studios a few times, so this was an inevitable purchase for me. So it got here and I plugged in....the sound was really 1950's to my ears! Yes, I can hear the Sun sound in different settings that I've tried, so it will be on my board for a while. I really appreciate the time spent engineering this pedal into a recognizable sound. There are many Sun records in my collection so I've been trying to match sounds with them while simultaneously listening to some of the recordings. Fun pedal!
Music background: Not famous, but I've played a lot.
Magic in a Pedal
You "could" dial amp to just the right eq, set an analog delay for slapback, and run that into a room reverb with an eq knob set just right, or* set the Memphis Sun and have all of those with one click. It gives the sound of early analog mics recording early amplifiers turned up bouncing around in a small room with enough subtle adjustability to have it a little wetter or drier depending on the room you are playing in. Thank you, Robert Keeley, well done.
