Keeley Memphis Sun Lo-Fi Reverb, Echo, and Double Tracker Pedal Reviews
Vintage guitar tone abounds in the Keeley Memphis Sun pedal, and it's sure to put a smile on your face. Equipped with lo-fi reverb, echo, and double tracker effects, it's like being transported to a 1950s recording session. Much more than rockabilly in a box, Memphis Sun offers three modes for three distinct starting points. Slapback 600 delivers echo with long delays, Sun Mode features auto track doubling and slapback with short delays, and Room mode offers "studio simulation reverb." Kick it on and it's sure to inspire some good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. If you've been looking for something to add to your pedalboard for a vintage vibe, Sweetwater can highly recommend the Keeley Memphis Sun.

Memphis Sun Pedal
Well, I've been to Sun Studios a few times, so this was an inevitable purchase for me. So it got here and I plugged in....the sound was really 1950's to my ears! Yes, I can hear the Sun sound in different settings that I've tried, so it will be on my board for a while. I really appreciate the time spent engineering this pedal into a recognizable sound. There are many Sun records in my collection so I've been trying to match sounds with them while simultaneously listening to some of the recordings. Fun pedal!
Magic in a Pedal
You "could" dial amp to just the right eq, set an analog delay for slapback, and run that into a room reverb with an eq knob set just right, or* set the Memphis Sun and have all of those with one click. It gives the sound of early analog mics recording early amplifiers turned up bouncing around in a small room with enough subtle adjustability to have it a little wetter or drier depending on the room you are playing in. Thank you, Robert Keeley, well done.
Sun Studios in a Box!!
This pedals just simply amazing. I love reverb and echo/delay combined and this doesn't such unique fashion giving you that 1950s Sun sound. It's spectacular.
Great Delay Pedal
I've always shy'ed away from delay pedals. I've tried many different types and none have made it to my pedal board. But I think that after 35 years I finally found the one. This delay pedal is amazing. It's very natural and earthy sounding. Has several settings and they are all amazing. I used it on a gig last week and it sounded great. Its build very sturdy and the knobs are easy to handle. They are a little tall for my taste but not an issue.
Magic Sauce Pedal
There are a lot of effects that seem to market well with videos only to be less as exiting once you try them out at home. I've been a fan of early rock and roll and the sounds that this effect exudes. I'll cut myself short here and just tell you that if those early electric guitar sounds are what you are after and you want to sound like the hit studio they were made in you should give this a try. Seems like everything I dial in give me "that sound" whatever that means, was, or should have been. It's always "that sound" and after that epiphany who cares really if it was right or not as I'm having too much fun with it.
Channel Scotty Moore and Cliff Gallup
I have tons of delay pedals searching for that sound my parents would play on their records from the '50s. Finally, there is a pedal that accomplishes that low fidelity slapback echo sound of the early Sun Records days. I have read reviews on forum sites where they cite that this pedal sounded murky and washed compared to other delay pedals. That is the whole point of this pedal... It makes you sound like the guitar played on those reel to reel recordings. All my delay pedals are wonderful, but they sound too high fidelity to reproduce that old sound for rockabilly music and that old sounding tone. Jared Kalish is wonderful and my go to guy as always. I cannot praise him enough. If you want to sound like a Scotty Moore and Cliff Gallup '50s recording, then this pedal delivers that tonality.
Memphis Sun pedal
Jared Kalish at Sweetwater is awesome as always. I've collected every delay pedal imaginable in order to acquire the Scotty Moore Sun Records sound. This pedal finally delivers. It sounds just like the Sun Records rockabilly recordings. Sweetwater is awesome as always. This pedal delivers the Cliff Gallup and Scotty Moore sound.
Vintage tones upon vintage tones, and a great sounding room reverb!
I picked up a Memphis Sun about a month ago from Sweetwater. The first one I got had an issue with the mix knob, which squelched the dry signal to quickly on the dial. With the help of Sean at Keeley and Wes Totten at Sweetwater, we determined it was faulty and I got a new one. Great support from both companies!
I've been loving the Memphis Sun and getting way more tones out of it than I ever expected. I use the Echo and Sun modes both for mainly double tracking (since I have an Dunlop Echoplex Delay for longer delays). The Echo mode provides a very warm, fuller sound and the Sun mode provides a nice vintage chorused effect. The Sun mode gives me tones reminiscent of 70's Clapton and Cale, which are some of my favorite tunes, and even some tone like Robbie Robertson on some of the later Band studio albums. The Memphis is way cooler than I ever imagined. Yes, it does some nice clickety-clack Cash sounds, but it does so much more.
Then there is the dedicated Room Reverb - just amazing sounding. It sounds great with my electric rig or acoustic. I've been using the Room mode along with my Keeley Super Phat and Eddie Heinzelman Verb o Trem to get some great Mellencamp sounds from studio cuts like on No Better Than This, Trouble No More, and Freedom's Road. Reverb mode with my acoustic makes me think I am sitting in a vintage room with Robert Johnson, Son House, or Mississippi John Hurt.
Thanks for another great pedal, Mr. Keeley! This number 4 for me, and not the last either. And thank you for Sweetwater (and my rep Chris) for continued excellent service. I can't see any reason to buy from any other company.
Keeley Memphis Sun
If you like rockabilly or any 50's Sun recordings I couldn't recommend it anymore, period. Solid in every way and worth every penny. Well done Mr. Keeley, well done
I'm keeping it no matter
Very unique. Great for early rockabilly or country but I have even used the doubler effect with distortion and delay so it's a keeper.
Wow!
I wasn't too sure about this in the beginning, but this is become a staple for my pedalboard. I'm very picky about how I want my sound, and this has everything and more. It definitely gives you that old school sound.
I've even plugged my acoustic/electric guitar through it into my DAW, which has been making my acoustic tracks sound so much more alive than what they have been. No need to mic it!
Great at what it does!
If you are looking for that early rock-n-roll sound at a tap of your toe, this pedal is it! Ideal for live performance. There is a slight learning curve to getting the most out of this pedal, but a short time working the switch and associated knobs and you'll have a good understanding of it.
Good For My Playing.
I"ve had this pedal for about one and half years. I used it on both electrics and acoustic. I use it as a do all pedal to keep from dragging a pedalboard for just a few songs at church or short gig. I like it but have to get settings just right. Not quite Scotty Moorish but useful. Takes care of my needs close enough. Downside is it"s pricey and reason I deducted one star. All pedals are getting outrageous in price.
I want to love it but...
I just recently purchased this pedal to try and get a cool Rockabilly sound, but have no idea how to operate it. I've tried all three modes every possible setting and just can't get it.
Very Low Tech be aware~!
I had high hopes on this effect due to the several youtube demonstrations which in hindsight were very controlled. This is a very very Low Tech device. The controls and switch hardly make any audible difference to to ear. Be aware that you are buying a very lo grade effect and for the $... price tag it it very overpriced. The reverb is horrible and the slapback hardly varies from selection to selection. Worth no more than $30 IMHO
