Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass

First introduced in 1960, the Jazz Bass has withstood the test of time to become one of the most played and recorded instruments in modern music history. As roundwound strings and brighter bass sounds became popular in the 1970s, a number of modifications were made to the J Bass to accommodate the changing tastes in music production; most notably, maple fingerboards and a back pickup moved closer to the bridge. The Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass captures this funky vibe in an incredibly affordable instrument with the classic J Bass offset-waist body, fast-action neck, and dual single-coil pickups. Squier's Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass is remarkably comfortable to play and lets you pull off extremely tight runs and grooves with ease. Of course, it also delivers the legendary punchy bass sound you can only get from a pair of Jazz Bass pickups.

This Jazz Bass offers timeless single-coil bass sound

Although the versatile Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass sounds great in just about any context, it really shines on musical styles that rely on that classic scooped, growling bass sound. That being said, you can achieve a myriad of tones by blending the volume of both Fender Designed Alnico single-coil pickups to taste. Whether you play rock or country, funk or blues, or (naturally) jazz, the Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass will deliver the tone you need.

Shaped for comfort and performance

One of the things that made the Jazz Bass an instant hit with working bass players was its unique offset-waist body shape. Perfect whether playing standing or seated, the classic Jazz Bass contoured body will make those marathon gigs and sessions much more comfortable. With its slim C-profile neck that's only 1.5" wide at the nut, this instrument was originally designed to appeal to jazz bassists. The slender neck not only facilitates the fluid execution of fast, complex bass lines; it's perfect for any musical style — which is why you hear the Jazz Bass in every genre of music.

Join the ranks of Jazz Bass players

Pick up the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass and you've got affordable entrée into the company of some of the greatest bass players of all time. World-renowned bassists such as Jaco Pastorius, Geddy Lee, Marcus Miller, Larry Graham, John Paul Jones, and Victor Bailey all chose the J Bass as their go-to axe. Sweetwater's advice: If you want the iconic round and punchy, growling Jazz Bass sound along with effortless playability — and an amazing value, to boot — you're on the right page. Pick up the Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass and drive your music with legendary tone.

The saga of the Jazz Bass-and the beautiful replacement

Ordered a Squire 70's Jazz bass in Jan 2022. From day one the bass neck would not play or adjust properly even with 2 of my best guitar luthiers trying to fix it. I n Feb 2023 I spoke to to Sweetwater's Guitar Workshop for a warranty repair and then shipped the Jazz bass to them. I expected they would just replace the neck with a good one since the problem with the first bass was a broken truss rod. Well today out of the blue Fed-Ex delivered a beautiful brand new Squire 70's Jazz Bass to me. I have played it now for a few hours and to say it is a better bass would be an understatement! Everything about it is superb for a $ bass. It plays and sounds as good as my 1972 Rickenbacker 4001 and almost as good as my stingray.
The Sweetwater Guitar Workshop staff and my sales rep Mike Johnson are very friendly professional and caring.
If you looking for an entry level bass or a backup bass the Squire 70's Vibe Jazz Bass is a perfect choice aand very cost effective. Kudos to the Sweetwater for taking such great care of an old road warrior like me.

Wow!

Was going to save up for a fender Jazz Bass not sure what one but heard about this Squier jazz cv70. And the reviews were great. So I gave it a try and glad I did this thing is a beast and it is still stock. Want to try And put in Seymour Duncan qp's. But the tones are awesome now so we will see!

Awesome Bass

I recently purchased this bass, and I must say I am blown away with the quality of this product. I used to have a Squier J bass back about 15 years ago and the quality and playability was no where near what I am experiencing with this new purchase. The setup was spot on and did not require any further adjustment. The sound and playability amazingly close to the more expensive J basses from the fender offerings.

Squier Jazz Bass

I have always loved Fender P basses. I'm a child of the 60's and the P bass was the bass to play. I like its playability and most importantly it's sound. But lately I thought I would try a Jazz bass just for comparability. I did some looking around on the Sweetwater web site and decided on the Squier. I've always played Fender but based on reviews of the Squier being favorable and at basically half the price of the Fender I thought I would take a chance. And I have been very pleasantly surprised. When I received it from Sweetwater (in Sweetwater's usual excellent packaging) I opened it up and saw one beautiful bass. The set up was just about right out of the box with only a little tweaking on the string height and I started playing this thing. To my surprise the playability was just as good if not better than my P bass. And I could get different tones than with the P. I have seen videos where players will make refinements to the Squier but for me it has been fine as is. I may put some flat wounds on it but other than that, nada. Take a chance and get one of these basses. You won't be disappointed.
Music background: Played soul music in the 60’s with a big band when I was a teenager. Started back playing two years ago (after not playing for 50 years) with my Church’s praise bad.
