I recently had a chance to take this recorder home with me and I am glad I got the chance to learn more about it. Within a matter of minutes I had plugged in my guitar and was laying down tracks and playing with all the onboard effects. I also had a chance to use the Quick Loop Sampler with the sample library that ships with the unit. It too was quite easy to get up and running and I managed to create some backing rhythm tracks with very little effort.
One of the coolest things about the AW16G is the ability to route signal and edit parameters with ease. There are plenty of inutitive controls and few buried menus that are hard to find. Once you get the hang of the interface, which doesn’t take long, you’ll be making great music!
An added bonus that is very unique to recorders in this class is the ability to use it as a controller(via MIDI) for computer based DAWs or synth modules. It includes templates for ProTools LE, Sonar, Cubase and Logic. Again, an added bonus to an already complete and powerful device.
This multitrack recorder is a fantastic tool for the creative musician/songwriter and should be considered by anyone looking at a high quality portable recorder. It includes all the tools necessary to create great sounding music and even produce a finshed CD with the help of the built-in mastering effects which are fantastic!
