About the Bob Moog Foundation
This small 501(c)(3) non-profit is an organization that focuses on educating children through an intersectional approach that combines science, music, history, and creativity. It honors Bob Moog’s own vision of education, ensuring that the youth of today can lead the future of technological innovation tomorrow. The Bob Moog Foundation’s program, Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool, is a 10-week curriculum that teaches second-grade students about the physics of sound. This hands-on approach uses acoustic and electronic musical instruments and technology.
About Herbie Hancock
The one and only Herbie Hancock joins the ranks of other iconic Moog performers including Stevie Wonder, Dr. Fink of Prince and the Revolution, Jan Hammer, and others who’ve lent their signatures to previous raffles. With a career spanning half a century, Herbie Hancock has been a synthesizer pioneer, particularly in the world of jazz music. A glance at this special, vintage Minimoog Model D’s back panel not only reveals Hancock’s signature, but a special message from the 14-time Grammy winning musician: “Hey Bob!” next to a musical staff.
About the Minimoog Model D
It was an exciting time for the synth world back in 1970. Digital synthesizers were right around the corner, early sequencers were close on the horizon, and everything was getting cheaper. Moog’s answer to this was the small, affordable, and portable Minimoog Model D. While Bob Moog himself didn’t anticipate selling more than 100 of them, the Minimoog Model D is widely considered today to be the most iconic synthesizer of all time. You couldn’t ask for a more appropriate representation of Bob Moog’s legacy than this Model D 1549.
