What Does “Marine Grade” Mean?

Q: I’ve heard Mesa Boogie refer to the wood in their cabinets as “marine grade.” What does that mean?

A: According to our friends at Boogie, “Marine grade” refers to a type or “grade” of birch used for nautical applications, such as building boats. Marine grade birch is highly resistant to moisture, so it won’t swell under adverse conditions. Plus, the tolex covering will not come off the wood and will not bubble.
