At Sweetwater, we’ve always been huge fans of progressive designs that allow artists to push their creativity to new heights. So, when we had the opportunity to bring NS Design onboard, we were deeply impressed by their lineup of cool, forward-thinking electric stringed instruments. Founded by Ned Steinberger, shortly after he’d sold his innovative Steinberger Designs company to Gibson, NS Design is dedicated to bringing the same adventurous approach to building electric cellos, violas, violins, and upright basses that he’d previously brought to guitars. And according to musicians such as Laurie Anderson, Les Claypool, Tony Levin, and many others, he more than succeeded! One major breakthrough is the TransRadius fretboard , which lets you comfortably play with a bow, your fingers, or a pick. Paired with an NS Design’s Polar pickup system that supports bowing and pizzicato articulation (on the bowed instruments), these instruments give you a full range of performance options.
