This is a relatively new application that has some excellent improvements over the standard VSL sample player. The biggest difference is that it can load multiple instances of the various Vienna Instruments. It also allows users to configure audio buses, along with insert and send effects for each loaded instrument. Vienna Ensemble allows users to save custom Projects with complete orchestral setups. It runs on Windows XP and Vista, as well as Mac OS X. Vienna Ensemble comes with a new tool called “Plug-In Latency Configure.” This allows users to match the application to their sound card’s or hardware interface’s latency. The latency configuration must be determined before starting a specific sequence. If left at zero, the Vienna Ensemble’s plug-in output will lag behind that of your software sequencer. The application also has some rather nice shortcuts for adding buses, creating a new instrument, opening the Preferences dialog, and more. The shortcuts are listed inside the PDF user’s manual that is part of the Vienna Ensemble installation.
