Tonic Sol-Fa

Today, Tonic Sol-Fa is known as a system of sight-singing. Tonic Sol-Fa was created by D. Sower in the 1830s but was developed and pioneered by others as not only a system of sight-singing, but also for music notation. In Tonic Sol-Fa, the notes of a major or minor scale are defined or named independent of their starting note or scale. In other words, the pitches are defined or named according to their numeric relationship to the tonic (being one) of the scale.
