Sweep Picking

Sweep picking is a guitar technique in which a guitarist plays single notes on consecutive strings with a “sweep” of their picking hand either upward or downward across the strings, while using their fretting hand to finger a series of notes. Sweep picking is an advanced technique because both hands are required to move exactly in unison in order for the sweep picking to result in fast and fluid notes. Sweep picking is often used to play high-speed arpeggios.
