A term that is used both for specific products and as a generic descriptor; a “strap lock” is a device that secures a guitar or bass strap onto the instrument so that it won’t inadvertently fall off, allowing the instrument to plunge to the floor and suffer potential damage. A wide variety of types are available, ranging from simple rubber washers that help hold the strap onto the guitar’s strap button, to spring loaded metal clasps that can withstand hundreds of pounds of force. There are versions available for electric guitars/basses, and for acoustic guitars.
