Joining the fight for your 8 x 8 USB MIDI interface business is Steinberg with their MIDIex8. It does not require external power when used in standard USB mode and it has an additional thru port and (this is cool) a MIDI cable checker built in. It also supports their LTB (Linear Time Base) high resolution MIDI timing protocol.
Speaking of Steinberg, their Wavelab editing and CD burning software has been updated to version 3.03d. Registered users of version 3 can download the update at Steinberg’s website.
