“I’ve been using a MOTU audio system and trying to burn audio discs using Toast. However my problem is that the Digital Performer wants to make individual audio files for the left and right channels. I don’t think Toast can read those and make a stereo file. Is this true? My results sure sound mono.”
The basic version of Toast will not combine individual left and right files into a stereo recording. It will work just fine with files that are already stereo. There are some other programs that will work with the individual files, but if you want to use Toast there is a workaround for this in Digital Performer.
After bouncing the stereo file (two mono SDII files get created) in DP, click the file name in the Soundbites window so that it is highlighted. From the Soundbites mini-menu, choose Export Selected bites. Choose a destination (hard drive and/or folder) for the exported file & a new name if you like. THEN select one of the following in the FORMAT field: Interleaved SDII, AIFF, windows WAV. (Interleaved SDII is recommended) By making an interleaved file you combine the left and right files into one file, which will work fine with Toast. Ta-da!
