Upon first opening the box, I instinctively knew how to use the 722 because it is laid out attractively and intuitively. The major features can be used immediately without any configuration. I plugged in a Shure KSM9 and began recording at 24 bits, 96 kHz to the internal 40GB hard drive.
I wanted to take it out in the field so I took it to a venue to record a friend’s rock band. I arrived late, but was able to set up to begin the field recording in less than a minute. The 722 has a bright backlit display and LED meter so it was easy to see the levels, file name, elapsed time, and battery level in the dark venue. It also has locking input gain knobs to prevent accidentally moving the knobs.
When I got back home to listen, I was blown away by the accurate sound. The sound of the 722 is incredibly clear and free of noise or distortion. The high quality and ease of use makes this hands-down my choice for stereo field recording.
