BIAS Peak 5 supports the transfer of samples between a Mac and a SMDI sampler, such as the Kurzweil K2000/2500/2600 and the E-MU E-IV, ESI-32, ESI-4000, E-64, and E5000. If a SMDI device cannot be found even though one is connected to your Mac, you’ll get the message “No SMDI devices could be found connected to this Macintosh.”
The first thing you’ll want to do is make certain all your SCSI cables are securely connected to both the Mac and the SMDI device. If that’s not the problem, be sure that you have not assigned the device a SCSI ID number that’s already in use. For example, the Mac is always SCSI 0. If there is another SCSI device (a CD-ROM or hard drive), be sure these do not duplicate the same SCSI ID.
Quite often, a chant of “Booga-booga” may work, provided you have powered down all the units in the SCSI chain. Wait a few minutes, then turn on all external devices, utter the chant (you may also spin around a few times for effect), then power up the Mac last. Finally launch Peak and see if that fixes the problem. In most cases, one of these does the trick. As a “last ditch” solution, try substituting a different SCSI cable while eliminating all devices other than the Mac and the sampler.
