Q: I’m going to be doing some tracking where I want to shockmount a Shure SM57 mic. It doesn’t look like a lot of the “spider” shockmounts will work with that microphone. Do you have any suggestions?
A: The Shure SM57 is actually quite well internally shockmounted, but there are options if you want even more isolation.
Shure makes two shockmounts that will fit it, the A55HM and the A55M.
There are also “universal” shockmounts such as: AT8410a and AT8415
Another option might be one of these Kelly Shu shockmounts (there are two versions, the Composite and the Pro), which you just screw a regular mic clip onto. They’re designed for kick drum, but might be adaptable for your application.
