Sitka Spruce

Native to the North American west coast, the Sitka Spruce is the world’s largest species of spruce evergreen tree. The tree earns its name from the small Alaskan city-borough of Sitka, and it remains Alaska’s main timber tree and the state tree of Alaska. Thanks to its knot-free appearance and high strength-to-weight ratio for powerful tone, Sitka has become a popular choice for crafting musical instruments, and is widely used today for piano soundboards, violin bodies, and acoustic guitar tops.
