Microphone giant Shure announced that the registration process for its second “Fantastic Scholastic” recording competition will remain open until 11:59 P.M. CST on Monday, November 14th. The event is open to all university and college students nationwide. On November 17th, 2005, a drawing will be held to select 10 finalist schools at random, each of which will receive a standardized “mic locker” from Shure, which must be used in the completion of each recording project that is submitted. The competing teams from each school are required to track and mix a live performance, with the final mixdown being judged by a panel of industry heavyweights who will evaluate the recordings based upon overall fidelity, clarity, sonic balance, and creativity in both the selection and placement of the microphones. Announcement of a Grand Prize winner will take place on May 8, 2006. In 2005, a 5-member team from the Berklee College of Music in Boston won the first competition.
