Breaking News: Mars Music has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The details are available at this link to the Sun Sentinel. They are appearing in court today to try to demonstrate that they can continue operating as they reorganize, however, some of their "lower performing" stores will be closing. They are also asking the court for permission to honor all gift cards, pre-paid music lessons, layaway agreements and to be able to make refunds on products purchased before the filing. Even though Mars is to some extent a competitor of ours, we all know and like the folks over there, and feel that almost everybody loses when a company such as Mars falls on hard times. We at Sweetwater hope for a speedy and successful reorganization for Mars, and that they continue to be able to provide their local markets with the educational, rental and retail service that those markets enjoy.
