A pretty ugly dispute between current and former members of the hot ’80s pop group, Blondie, boiled over onstage while punk rockers, the Sex Pistols, turned down the honor of being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by sending what was called, “a profane letter.” All this turmoil made Black Sabbath’s induction – along with Ozzy Osbourne – seem pretty tame. Lynyrd Skynyrd was happy to accept the accolades, and even performed their biggest hit, “Free Bird,” on stage in celebration. Pioneering jazz trumpeter Miles Davis was the final honoree. Blondie, which includes early pop diva Deborah Harry, performed their hits “Heart of Glass,” “Rapture” and “Call Me” though original members Frank Infante, Nigel Harrison, and Gary Valentine weren’t invited to join the performance because of the on-going dispute (and were reportedly quite upset about being excluded).
