Native Instruments thoughtfully put a 2-track recorder into their popular Akoustik Piano virtual instrument. So if an idea hits you while you’re playing, you can immediately make a recording of it so you won’t forget it later. What’s more, it has MIDI file player functionality, so it also doubles as a useful practice aid. In the File section, you create, name, load, export, and save your songs in the Akoustik Piano song format (*.aps). You can only record to one track at a time and record-enabled tracks appear as red.
Pressing the Record button always resets the song position to the beginning. Once you are satisfied with your recording, press the File section’s Save button, where you will be asked where to save the file. Once it’s saved, you can choose to play your track back or prepare to record a second track, in which case you would repeat the steps above.
When playing back a MIDI file, MIDI Channel One is assigned to Track 1, while Channels 2-16 will be assigned to Track 2 (with the exception of Channel 10, which is normally the drum channel).
While it’s not a full-blown sequencer or multitrack recorder, having the 2-track recorder means you’ll never lose your inspiration while you go searching for something to record onto!
