You’d think after years of development, the DAW world would be fairly well cut and tried – you have the tried and true solutions on the market, all of which work well. But that doesn’t mean that companies aren’t looking for new approaches or to completely re-envision the whole DAW concept. That’s just what Propellerhead Software set out to do with their just-announced Record software. In fact, it’s probably more accurate to think of Record as “Reason for audio.” Record is designed as a tool that’s optimized for recording music projects. The focus is on ease of use and sound, using a dedicated set of “hardware” modules in a virtual rack (this will sound familiar to Reason users).
Record has lots of options for processing and mixing sound, including Line 6 modeled amps/effects, an SSL-modeled mixer, track comping, “tempo-based sound” with high-quality time stretching, automation, Reason-style audio effects modules, Reason-style interface and operation, integration with Reason, and, of course, tons more…
…but the bad news is that it won’t be available until September 2009, though there is a beta program happening right now. Stay tuned for more information as Record approaches its release date!
