So, you have a Roland product that uses the original R-BUS digital audio format, but you want to use it with your new FireWire-equipped Mac. But guess what? The connectors don’t match up. Don’t panic (though we’ll admit that we panic every time anyone says “don’t panic!”). The folks at PreSonus feel your pain, so they have announced V-FIRE, which allows users to convert Roland’s R-BUS format to FireWire (IEEE 1394), thus providing a multi-channel computer interface for any and all Roland products equipped with an R-BUS output. The V-FIRE features two R-BUS ports and two FireWire ports allowing sixteen channels of digital audio to stream at up to 24-bit 96K sample rate. The V-FIRE is also equipped with R-BUS 1, R-BUS 2 and master sync LED indicators. This Windows XP and Macintosh compatible module will also ship with a software control panel enabling the user to select the sample rate (44.1-96kHz), latency, buffer size, and clock source. There, problem solved!
