Indicates a sound that has enhanced high-frequency content or brightness so that it will cut through a mix without significantly increasing volume. In general, microphones with a slight “bump” in high-frequency response are said to have greater presence, making them excellent for use on vocal tracks. Many guitar amplifiers have also included a presence control, either in the form of a knob or a switch that would boost high-frequency content, usually between 3 and 4kHz.
