Picking Hand

When playing a stringed instrument, such as guitar or bass, the “picking hand” is the hand that is used to hold a pick to pluck the strings — though the term is also used generically to refer to the hand that plucks the strings, whether with a pick or with the fingers. In general, right-handed players (or left-handed players with right-handed instruments) will use their right hand as their picking hand, and left-handed players (with left-handed instruments) will use their left hand as their picking hand.
