Q: I own a vintage Gibson SG Standard and I love it, but I seem to be breaking D strings at an unusually high rate. I keep a box of them handy, but is there anything I should be looking for as the probable cause?
A: You probably have a sharp edge in the string slot in the D-string saddle in the guitar’s bridge. Our recommendation is to have a qualified guitar tech check it out. Possibly some smoothing of the slot is all that’s required, but you won’t know until you have it checked.
