We often go long periods without hearing about guitar manufacturers introducing new models. Yet here is PRS with the second major new introduction in as many days. Now that the legal issues are behind them, the company is introducing a new take on their popular, award-winning Singlecut model. The guitar is called the Singlecut Trem Modern Eagle, and if you know the PRS line at all, you can easily piece together what this instrument will look like. If you’re not up-to-date on your PRS models, here’s the inside story. Like their original double cutaway Modern Eagle, this new single cutaway version comes with a highly figured maple top on a solid mahogany body with a specially formulated “ultra-thin, satin nitrocellulose finish,” which allows the wood to resonate more freely. The neck is solid Brazilian rosewood, one of the most difficult of all tone woods to obtain these days. The fingerboard is also Brazilian rosewood.
The final piece of the puzzle is the addition of a PRS tremolo system, which was gaining popularity in their original Singlecut line before legal problems forced them to temporarily halt production. The Singlecut Trem Modern Eagle will be available in all the Modern Eagle colors, as well as a brand new “Yellow Tiger” translucent finish. There’s been no word about specific pickups, but we’d assume they will stick with the same set of humbuckers that come standard on the original Modern Eagle. As soon as we get our hands on one, we’ll give you a full review!
