Mackie has announced two new audio interfaces, the USB-based Onyx Blackjack and the FireWire-based Onyx Blackbird. The 2×2 Blackjack is designed for desktop use, and offers two new Onyx mic preamps, each with DI, separate control over headphones and monitors, and analog monitoring for latency-free tracking. The Onyx Blackbird is a rackmount unit with eight new Onyx mic preamps; it offers 16×16 operation, with eight channels of ADAT I/O and wordclock I/O. Two “Super Channels” featured low-cut switches, phantom power, and analog monitor for latency-free tracking. The Control DSP Matrix Mixer allows quick setup of independent mixes and I/O routing. Monitor, main, alt, and dual headphone outs provide flexible connectivity.
Both interfaces are compatible with most Mac- and Windows-based audio software, and include Tracktion 3 Music Production Software.
