Yamaha has been building world-class grand pianos for about a century now, so who better to deliver a truly convincing digital version? In fact, the company just added two models to their P Series digital pianos: the P140 and P140S. Each features 88 fully weighted keys for a real piano feel, along with 64 notes of polyphony and 14 of Yamaha’s best keyboard voices, each with three tonal variations.
To accurately capture the magnificent sound of a real grand piano, there are three separate layers of stereo samples that deliver a stunningly accurate reproduction of the overall tone and harmonics, along with the subtle nuances including key-off and true stereo sustain samples. Also onboard is a 2-track sequencer, so you can record your own original music, or just play along for practice. Built-in effects include multiple reverbs, chorus, phaser, tremolo, and an adjustable rotary speaker.
If you want to enjoy the sound and feel of a real concert grand piano, but don’t have the space or the budget for a real 9-foot grand, the P140 (black with dark oak finish) and P140S (silver with light maple finish) may be just what you’re looking for. You can even add Yamaha’s PC Music Studio Kit (sold separately) to connect the instrument directly to any Windows-compatible computer with a USB port for such activities as printing music, recording performances, and even virtual piano lessons.
