With 8GB (yes, gigabytes) of solo and ensemble orchestral instruments (and a few extras added for good measure) and a surprisingly low sticker price, MOTU Symphonic Instrument is a certified hit. Now MOTU has updated the package to version 1.1, which is available free to all registered owners of the original plug-in. New features include standalone operation (no need to launch a separate application to access the instruments), 64 parts per plug-in, support for up to 64 MIDI channels, multiple independent outputs, and disk streaming. Stand-alone operation allows Symphonic Instrument to be used with notation software and other applications that don’t support plug-ins. Operation is virtually identical to plug-in operation, with the exception of a few additional settings for audio/MIDI input and output.
